Avant d'être le grand Charles, le général de Gaulle a d'abord été un combattant de la Grande Guerre, un officier plein d'assurance et d'illusions.
Fait prisonnier sur le champ de bataille de Verdun, en mars 1916, le capitaine de Gaulle tente à cinq reprises de s'évader des forteresses allemandes. Car celui qui sera en juin 1940 le fondateur de la Résistance a déjà en lui cette volonté, cet acharnement à retrouver la liberté et à ne pas se soumettre à l'ennemi.
